My sculptures emerge from the making and joining of wood, metal or fabric.  The combination of these materials and their relationship to each other becomes the focus of the work.  Starting with a concept, each sculpture evolves and changes as new ideas are introduced.  Communicating with different materials becomes a journey of ever changing directions.  When problems arise they become an opportunity for new discoveries.  With all open ended concepts, what is not planned cannot be predicted.

 Abstract  Paintings

My early experience working as a technical textbook illustrator, as well as teaching art and mechanical drawing, continues to inform my work. Using basic elements and principles of design I begin with small pencil sketches to explore ideas. As the painting process unfolds, I add or subtract shapes and lines, allowing the composition to evolve organically. When areas of the work feel unbalanced, I white out sections and introduce new elements. Hard-edged, outlined shapes and lines often dominate the final piece. My intentions are to discover how line and shape can be created within a designated space that reflects a intuitive personal vision. Finally, with all open ended concepts, what is not planned cannot be predicted.
